Saving a wounded animal
by Daniel Loboda
(Winnipeg)
It started out as an ordinary day on the farm.
I pondered going into the wild to explore nature and ended up voyaging to a nearby forest and set camp for 3 days.
I went for a walk to maybe gather some berries. As I rested my body against a tree I noticed a black, still figure in an open field in the distance. I slowly made my way towards the shadow and when I got closer I realized it was a wounded cub.
I couldn't help wanting to rescue it, but I was nervous that its mother was nearby.
I ran back to camp where I had my SUV parked and drove it towards the farm’s field and through a ditch. I parked my car and took out some berries I'd gathered.
Luckily the cub followed me towards the car and I put it in the backseat. I then quickly transported the cub to safety where he was treated.
Fortunately the wounds weren't severe. Once treated, the cub was placed in the same place where I had found him.
